The 2018 Texas Conference on Digital Libraries brought together over 170 librarians, archivists, technologists, and information professionals to explore perspectives. All of us at Texas Digital Library found this year’s conference more inspiring and enjoyable than ever. Below are just a few highlights listing the ways #tcdl2018 was great.
We saw a new perspective.
Dr. King Davis (pictured above) led us on an exploration of his work: a digital archive of historical mental institution records at the intersection of privacy, race, and changing perceptions of mental illness. Dr. Davis’s keynote address was the conference highlight for many attendees. Many thanks to Dr. Davis, our panelists, presenters, and birds-of-a-feather hosts for helping all TCDL attendees see a new perspective.
We engaged our community
TCDL is an invigorating and purposeful event because of the energy attendees bring. The Texas Digital Library community is a great place to engage with fellow consortium members and meet future collaborators. See more on our #tcdl2018 Facebook album.
We shared ideas
This year’s presenters offered bold, brilliant, and valuable ideas that inspired new collaborations. The only downside to offering a high quantity of high-quality presentations meant that many people had trouble deciding which sessions to attend! We celebrated excellence
The TDL Awards are peer-nominated and peer-selected awards that recognize the work of our community members. This year’s winners represent both the depth and breadth of excellence among information professionals throughout Texas. Find out who the 2018 TDL Award winners are here.
