After three years in the virtual space, the Texas Conferences on Digital Libraries will be held in-person, and we could not be more excited to welcome you back to Austin. Hi… How are you? As we reunite face-to-face, we’ll pause to reflect on all that has changed, especially ourselves and our workplaces, and forge a path forward together.
Our work centers on increasing equitable access to digital materials, valuing the individual, celebrating differences, eliminating barriers, and providing space everyone can fully participate in. Let’s share how we work at work, how we work together, and how we work through challenges old and new.
So, hi. How are you… really? We can’t wait to find out at TCDL.
The TCDL 2023 “Hi, How Are You” theme was inspired by the Hi, How Are You Project, an Austin, TX based 501c3 non-profit organization with the mission to remove the stigma around mental health, one conversation at a time. Keynote Speaker: Sofia Leung
Sofia Leung, she / her, is an author, librarian, facilitator, and educator committed to social justice in libraries and higher education. She is a first-generation Chinese American focused on building community among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in libraries and beyond.
Leung brings to TCDL 2023 a vision and understanding of the future of librarianship where we work to dismantle white supremacy and racism in our daily work and library systems as part of our day-to-day rather than a task to be checked off. As librarians and information professionals, Leung aims for us not to be gatekeepers to knowledge or collections but to work as architects to build bridges and connect people to vast knowledges held on Earth.
Leung is co-editor with Jorge López-McKnight of “Knowledge Justice: Disrupting Library and Information Studies Through Critical Race Theory,” to demand using Critical Race Theory to reframe the racial powers within librarianship. Leung is a former editor at the journal In the Library with the Lead Pipe and founding editor of up//root: a We Here publication. Through her work with We Here and other platforms, Leung works to provide a safe and supportive community for Black and Indigenous folks and People of Color (BIPOC) in library and information science (LIS) professions and educational programs. She facilitates discussion that recognizes and intervenes in systemic social issues that have plagued BIPOC professionals both currently and historically and will bring the discussion to her keynote address at TCDL 2023.

About the Texas Conference on Digital Libraries
Since 2007, the Texas Digital Library has hosted the annual Texas Conference on Digital Libraries (TCDL). TCDL covers topics relevant to the creation, promotion, dissemination, and preservation of research, scholarship, and cultural heritage digital materials. The goal of TCDL is to bring together those working on digital projects — including outreach librarians, repository managers, catalogers, faculty members, technical staff, and others — in order to build a practical, usable, and sustainable model for digital libraries.
TCDL encourages and welcomes participation from students, scholars, librarians, researchers, faculty, and users from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. All are welcome!
