SUMMARY:Carpentries Workshop at TCDL 2021
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThis event is hosted by TDL and Texas A&M University Libraries. Library Carpentry is a hands-on workshop for learning core software and data skills of relevance to those in library roles with the goal to empower people to use software and data in their own work and to become advocates for efficient\, effective\, and reproducible data and software practices. While the workshop is domain-agnostic\, datasets used will be familiar to library staff. In this multi-day\, post-conference workshop\, instructors will guide attendees through three lessons: Tidy Data for basic spreadsheet formatting and quality assurance as well as OpenRefine and R to transform\, clean\, and analyze data. Participants do not need any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop. Participants must have access to a computer with a Mac\, Linux\, or Windows operating system (not a tablet\, Chromebook\, etc.) for which they have administrative privileges in order to install and use the necessary software packages. \n  \nPlease  register for this event here.

SUMMARY:POWRR Workshop. From Theory to Action: A Pragmatic Approach to Digital Preservation Strategies and Tools
DESCRIPTION:Workshop 1: Thursday\, July 7 | 9:00am – 4:00pm CST \nWorkshop 2: Friday\, July 8 | 9:00am – 4:00pm CST \nTrinity University\, San Antonio\, Texas \nLocation: Elizabeth Huth Coates Library\, Trinity University\, San Antonio\, Texas \nCost: Free\, but space is limited and registration is required. \n\nThursday\, July 7th Registration: Click here\nFriday\, July 8th Registration: Click here\n\nThe Texas Digital Library and the ACRL Digital Curation Interest Group are co-sponsoring two POWRR workshops\, to be held at Trinity University in San Antonio\, Texas July 7th and 8th. Registration is free\, but space is limited. \nThis full-day workshop is made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring human endeavor. The workshop was created as a result of an IMLS-funded study on identifying practical digital preservation solutions for small- and mid-sized libraries. Instructors will not be addressing the “why” of digital preservation; rather\, we are preparing for the “how”… providing hands-on\, practical experience. Attendees will practice the accession of a digital collection using a simple\, open source tool; learn about several digital preservation tools and services; and create an institution-specific action plan for making progress towards digital preservation goals.
