Absolutely no prior GIS experience is required to fully participate in these webinars. \nWebinar #1: 3D Modeling of Library Spaces Using QGIS \nPresenters: Michael Shensky (UT Austin) and Katherine Strickland (UT Austin) \nIn spring 2023 the UT Libraries worked with students in the UT Austin Master of Science in Information Technology and Management program on a  project to create a 3D interactive model of the Perry-Castaneda Library (PCL) Map Room that could be deployed as a web app. This project resulted in the successful development of a new web app that was created using open source software and which will allow patrons to locate maps when visiting the PCL Map Room in-person and explore the collection virtually. SUMMARY:TDL GIS Interest Group's "Georeferenceathon"
DESCRIPTION:Georeferenceathon! Join us Friday\, July 25 from 1-3:30pm for a free session that will focus on teaching complete beginners how to georeference scanned maps. Feel free to bring your own maps or use maps from our institutions’ collections that we will provide. No prior GIS or georeferencing experience necessary! Also\, bring whatever sweet treat\, snack\, or drink you use to beat the Texas heat! \nGeoreferencing is the process of converting a static image\, such as a scanned map\, aerial photograph\, or architectural plan\, into a usable geospatial dataset. By assigning real-world coordinates to the image\, it is transformed from a simple image into a data layer that can be used for analysis within a Geographic Information System (GIS). \nThe output of georeferencing is a new\, spatially-aware dataset that can be integrated with other data for scholarly research. This allows researchers to do things like: analyze historical change\, perform spatial analysis\, integrate and synthesize data\, digitize features\, and improve findability. \nGeoreferencing makes cultural and historical materials machine-readable in a spatial context\, unlocking them as valuable sources for data-driven research and scholarship. \nRegistration is required.\nLearn more about the TDL GIS Interest Group: https://texasdigitallibrary.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TDLGISIG/overview

SUMMARY:OER @ TDL: OER Course Marking: Promoting Open & Affordable Resources
DESCRIPTION:Course marking—the practice of designating courses that use open educational resources (OER) or other no- or low-cost resources—helps students identify affordable course options in their class schedules\, enabling them to make informed decisions when they register for classes. In addition to providing valuable information to students\, course markings also help institutions assess the use and impact of OER. However\, it can be challenging to initiate and maintain this process of marking courses\, which often involve a large number of stakeholders across the institution. In this session\, we will hear how three institutions have initiated and improved upon course marking processes for their students. They will share their challenges\, successes\, and future plans to establish sustainable course marking workflows in order to better promote open and affordable resources. \n\nQuarterly OER @ TDL meetings are organized by the TDL OER Users Group and are open to anyone interested\, regardless of membership in the Texas Digital Library.\nThe OER @ TDL meetings are not recorded in order to cultivate candid conversations. Offered as a cloud-hosted service (possible to run self-hosted)\, Browsertrix facilitates crawling dynamic content\, embedded media\, and sites requiring login with features including crawl scheduling\, automated quality assurance\, and custom browser behaviors. For those more experienced with command-line tools\, Browsertrix Crawler\, its crawling component\, can be run independently at the command-line. \nPlease join us to learn how Browsertrix might support your library’s high-fidelity web archiving needs. SUMMARY:Navigating Uncertainty Together: A Digital POWRR Reflection Workshop for Digital Preservation Practice
DESCRIPTION:Digital preservation work increasingly takes place under conditions of uncertainty: shifting funding landscapes\, evolving systems\, unclear authority\, and emotional strain. While technical assessment frameworks help institutions evaluate infrastructure and workflows\, they rarely address the human experience of stewardship work—confidence\, safety\, belonging\, and sustainability. \nThis interactive workshop introduces and applies Navigating Uncertainty\, a human-centered reflection and assessment framework developed by the Digital POWRR team through the Digital POWRR Peer Assessment Program. Participants will actively complete the framework for their own professional context and engage in structured peer dialogue using guided reflection prompts. \nRather than producing a formal assessment outcome\, the workshop emphasizes learning through reflection and conversation.
