The Texas Conferences on Digital Libraries convened in-person May 20-22, 2025 at the Commons Conference Center in Austin, Texas. The conference brought together nearly 160 librarians, archivists, technologists, students, and information professionals to share their latest endeavors, to inspire each other with pioneering projects and ideas, and to celebrate their work in libraries and archives. All of us at Texas Digital Library found this year’s conference insightful (and a lot of fun) and we cannot wait to see you all again next year!

The theme of the 2025 conference, How Far We’ve Come: Celebrating the Community, invited attendees to celebrate 20 years of Texas Digital Library and to reflect on how far we’ve come as a community, review current roadmaps, and discuss our plans for the future. Presentations explored how collaboration and engagement – both within and beyond the TDL community – highlight our shared success.

Keynote Speaker
Director of Programs for Invest in Open Infrastructure, Dr. Katherine Skinner, opened the conference with a keynote address entitled “Navigating the Now: Shared Values as Our Compass for Community Action”. Dr. Skinner challenged attendees to consider the rapid-fire changes defining 2025, both in and beyond the US. As research and education have come under attack, resulting in a broad range of science, education, and knowledge management efforts being defunded and/or unsettled by executive orders in the first four months of the year, Dr. Skinner urged attendees to move with clear intention in common directions rather than being stymied by fear of these still-developing stories. Dr. Skinner spotlighted ways we have been preparing for this moment for decades – both at TCDL and beyond – and she challenged us to meet it together, united, and with strength.
Honoring Awards Recipients
The TCDL Opening Plenary was also a time to honor and recognize recipients of the 2025 TDL Awards. These awards honor Texas-based individuals and groups that have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of digital libraries.
